When life comes at you – be ready!

In the whirlwind of modern life, where schedules are packed tighter than a suitcase on a vacation and even tighter on the way home, finding balance can feel like an elusive treasure hunt. I know for me between work commitments, family responsibilities, kids events and social engagements our plates are often overflowing with activities. With three kids in college and one high schooler, we are busier than ever in my house! So as I sit down to write this after a crazy day I am reminded that at the center of it all is Jesus. <insert deep breath and exhale here>
So fear not, fellow adventurers of the busy life! There are a million self help books about how to stay organized, how to be better at this or that… but we are only truly armed with the wisdom from the Good Book.
Juggling Act: Finding Harmony in Chaos
Life is like a game of juggling, with each ball representing a different aspect of our lives—work, family, hobbies, and social connections. Sometimes it feels like we’re just one misstep away from dropping them all. Sometimes mine feels more like a rubik’s cube! I can never get the things to line up! But ah… deep breaths and we can go to the Word! That’s where we can get those nuggets of wisdom to help keep those balls in the air.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
Doesn’t that sum it up? In the midst of our hectic schedules, it’s easy to rely solely on our own strength and understanding. However, the key to finding balance lies in trusting in a higher power. By surrendering our worries and burdens, we allow ourselves to find peace in the chaos.
An example of my real life chaos last night (granted it may seem small): being at a dinner with new friends and my daughter texting that she needs special socks for her game that is the next morning AND trying to be incognito on my phone so not to be rude. My headspace: total chaos. Sometimes chaos can not be avoided but how we react to it is everything. Someone elses Was it always like this? I am challenging myself to be more in the moment and worry less about things I can’t control.
Priorities: Aligning Heart and Soul
Amidst the hustle and bustle, it’s crucial to identify our priorities and align them with our values. Whether it’s spending quality time with family, nurturing our faith through small groups, or pursuing our passions, let’s ensure that our choices reflect what truly matters most.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
At the core of our busy lives, let’s remember to prioritize our spiritual well-being. By seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness first, we lay a solid foundation upon which to build our daily routines and commitments. This is where an attitude of gratitude comes in. As I navigate my own journey, I am trying to go to the Lord with gratitude and also just lift the anxiousness, the fear and anything that is worrisome to Him. He told us to do that! Why is this such a hard shift? Let go and let God?
Making Time for What Matters
In the midst of our jam-packed schedules, it’s easy to fall into the trap of neglecting the things that bring us joy and fulfillment. Whether it’s just watching a game of my daughter’s softball under the evening sun or gathering with like-minded individuals in small groups, let’s carve out time for the activities that rejuvenate our souls.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Que The Byrds- “to everything there is a season, turn turn turn…” Just as the seasons change, so too do the rhythms of our lives. Let’s embrace the ebb and flow, recognizing that there is a time for work and a time for play. By honoring the seasons of our lives, we can find harmony and balance in our busy schedules.
Thriving in the Busy Life
As we journey through the bustling landscape of our lives, let’s remember to embrace the chaos with open arms. By anchoring ourselves in faith, aligning our priorities with our values, and making time for the things that bring us joy, we can thrive amidst the busyness. So, here’s to juggling with grace, finding balance in the midst of chaos, and living each day to the fullest!
Stay blessed and keep shining bright!
