I was listening to a podcast this morning and the host was talking about overcoming a bad childhood and the choice that they made on whether to allow that to define them or to choose to overcome it. Were they going to be a victim or were they going to be a doer. She thought about it and realized that it boiled down to a simple thing and yet, still such a hard decision. I am talking about listening to God.

Hearing and listening to Him is how we get inspired and it’s that gut feeling that you have. Think about it. If something is pressing on you and you keep feeling and hearing it and it is good (meaning not harmful or sinful), it’s probably God!
God’s eager to have a chat with us. Think of Him as the ultimate parent figure, genuinely interested in engaging with you on the regular. And get this, He’s even set us up with the Holy Spirit so we can tap right into His thoughts. Pretty neat, right? But what if your situation seems hopeless? Well, I am gonna ask the question. Are you looking up?
John 16:13 lays it out, saying that when the Spirit rolls in, you’re in for some serious truth sessions. The Spirit’s your go-to source, residing within you, ready to divulge God’s sentiments about you and guide you on your path. Whoa – yep. Open that map right up and let Him put you on the journey.
Now, take a moment to let that sink in. Picture having the Almighty as your personal counselor for life’s big decisions, relationships, career moves — He’s there for it all. Our heavenly Father is essentially your ultimate confidant, always available to lend an ear and offer profound insights.
I work on this daily. My biggest struggle has been finding a space or time for these conversations but it shouldn’t be. It doesn’t have to be a ceremonial block of time. It can be while you are in the car, eating lunch or just taking a walk. Journaling is another way to connect. Instead of a Dear Diary… try Dear Jesus. This is a journal that I use.
When I thought about starting my own website and blog. I was excited, scared, nervous about what people may think. I thought no one would want to hear what I have to say. But it was layed on my heart for a reason and I have to believe that I can do great things because He says that I can! God made each of us special. You hear that??? GOD MADE YOU SPECIAL!
And let’s be clear: God reaching out to you isn’t about your spiritual prowess. It’s about His desire for you to deepen your understanding of Him. His voice in your life? It’s a manifestation of His grace. But remember, just like in any conversation, you’ve got to be present to hear Him out. And hey, He’s not just about the monologue — He’s keen to hear your thoughts too.
