Sursees is about the little things that make life sweeter. Something to make with your hands, a reason to gather your people, or a little encouragement to help you grow. Nothing too perfect or too serious, because goodness knows life already gives us enough of that.
Around here, we’re making things, setting the table, growing in faith, laughing at ourselves, and learning to notice the little gifts God tucked into ordinary days.

Meet Angie
Hi, I’m Angie. I’m a wife, mom, photographer, maker, writer, and dog mom to Sully, our golden retriever who has appointed himself head of quality control around here. If something falls on the kitchen floor, he takes his position very seriously.
I grew up with a mom who taught me how to do a lot of things. She taught me to cook, create, make things with my hands and, maybe most importantly, make things special for the people I love. So much of what I know started with her. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself thinking, It’s time to share some of this.
And that brings me to Sursees..
When I was a teenager, I moved to South Carolina. One day, I was sitting in a restaurant when I overheard a grandmother ask her grandson, “Do you want a little sursee?”
His face absolutely lit up.
Of course, I immediately leaned over to my friend and whispered, “What in the world is a sursee?”
She explained that a sursee was a little something special. A surprise. A small gift given just because.
Well, that was it.
The word stuck with me.
But even more than the word, I remembered that little boy’s face. There was so much excitement over something that hadn’t even been revealed yet. It wasn’t about how big the gift was or how much it cost. Someone had thought of him, and something special was coming just for him.
I loved that.
And I still do.
I am a gift-giver through and through. I’m the person who spots something while shopping and immediately thinks, Oh, she needs this. I love birthdays, little surprises, handwritten notes, homemade things and gifts for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Honestly, I can turn a trip to Target into a gifting opportunity with alarming ease.
That feeling is what I want Sursees to share.
Because a sursee doesn’t always come in a gift bag. Sometimes it’s a recipe someone took the time to teach you. A handmade project. A table set for people you love. A Bible verse that finds you on exactly the day you need it. A little encouragement. Something passed down from your mom that you suddenly realize is worth passing along yourself.

Things I’ve learned, things I’m still learning, things worth sharing, and probably a few things we’ll figure out together.
Because all these years later, I still remember that little boy’s face when his grandmother said the word “sursee”.
And I thought, Wouldn’t it be wonderful to give people a little bit of that feeling?
Something unexpected. Something thoughtful. Something that brings a little joy.
